Funds Management Approach

At the United Methodist Foundation of Western Pennsylvania, our funds management approach is based on a Biblical, and theologically sound, approach to Christian stewardship. The Foundation strives to work for churches, clergy, and individuals that desire to express a lifelong commitment to The United Methodist Church. When deciding investment guidelines, the Board of Directors follows these principles:

• Harmony with United Methodist Social Creed
• Safety of Principal
• Maximum Income
• Growth of Capital

It is an approach that, in practice, has resulted in careful investment and reasonably steady growth and return.

The Foundation maintains two managed funds. These are, effectively, common trust funds that allow the pooling of resources to accomplish together what would be difficult for most local churches and agencies acting by themselves. This approach makes it possible to diversify investments for greater safety of capital, and to provide ongoing, professional attention to market conditions.

We intend to provide service to our Account Holders in the event of any type of business disruption, and have an appropriate Business Continuity Plan in place.

In managing capital funds for churches and institutions of the Western Pennsylvania Annual Conference, the Foundation is helping church members multiply the talents we have been given, and to answer God’s call to total, intentional, and responsible stewardship.

A brochure, Funds Management, that further describes our approach is available for your use. If you would like to receive a copy, please contact us.
